The car of the slain tribal elder, Muhammad Jan, was targeted by an unidentified person in Bar Kamar area of Mamund district.
According to Senior District Official Fayyazul Haq Sherpao, an improvised explosive device planted along the roadside went off as Jan's vehicle passed by it, leaving him and five others dead.
The dead included Jamiat Ulema Islam-Faz (JUIF) leaders Qari Fazal e Rabi, Musafar khan, Shahab Uddin, and Abdullah. Rabi was also the former chief of JUIF.
The car was completely destroyed as a result of the blast. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
Soon after the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and carried out a search operation.
A peace committee leader was killed in an explosion in the same agency on May 1.

Khalid Khan was killed when an improvised explosive device, planted on the roadside, exploded.
Meanwhile, the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khorasani said the tribal elder, Muhammad Jan, and his colleagues were targeted for their support to the government.
