Secondary Education District Officer Ali Ahmad told The Express Tribune that all district heads of the Education Department had been directed to send lists of teachers who had participated in the protest. He said Education EDO Bashir Zahid Goraya had sent out an SMS alert on May 7, that teachers should not abandon duties on May 8 and leave the district but a number of teachers had ignored it.

Ahmad said scores of teachers headed by Government Jamia Chishtia High School headmaster and former Senior Staff Association (SSA) president Hafiz Abdun Nasir, and Punjab Teachers Union president Hafiz Ghulam Mohiyuddin had left the district and violated the EDO’s directive.

He said the EDO had sent Elementary Education DO Mazhar Hussain Warraich, Secondary Education DO Ali Ahmad Siyan along with Education DDOs to Lahore to identify teachers participating in the protestat.“These officers reported names of teachers who had participated in the MAM protest. The lists are being prepared on their report so that action can be taken against them,” he said.
