Man of the match AB de Villiers’ incredible 133 of 59 balls helped Royal Challengers Bangalore to a 39-run win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, in their Indian Premier League match.
De Villiers joined skipper Virat Kohli out in the middle in just the fourth over after Chris Gayle was dismissed for 13. The South African took six balls to get off the mark but there was little joy for the hosts from there on in as the pair took the game away from them in emphatic fashion, making a record-breaking 215-run stand off just 101 balls to set an almost impossible target of 236.
Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was the only successful bowler, finishing with 1-27 in four overs that included a wicket-maiden, as no other bowler went for less than 10 an over.
The target was always going to be out of Mumbai’s reach, who never looked like worrying the visitors and fell 39 runs short in the end.
