LAHORE:

A team, comprising 240 policemen, was formed on Saturday to arrest proclaimed offenders (POs).

A ceremony was held at Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines in this regard.

Operations DIG Dr Haider Ashraf, SSP Operations Muhammad Baqair Raza, SP Headquarters Umar Saeed and the 240 ‘Soft Cops’ attended the event.

“The Soft Cops should ensure that all POs in 489/F cases are arrested. This will help police win back people’s confidence,” he said.

He said that the team had been given the target of arresting 100 POs in a week.

He said the team should verify the names of POs by contacting complainants in the cases filed against them.

“Standard operating procedures for the team have been finalised. All facilities will be provided to members of the team.

The crime rate will decline if the POs are arrested,” he said.

Ashraf said that the performance of the team members would be monitored during weekly meetings. He said that corruption would not be tolerated in the department.
