Homeopathic doctor gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI:
A homeopathic doctor was shot dead on Saturday at a clinic in Nazimabad's Paposh area.

The victim was identified as Anwar Ali Abidi. The 45-year-old was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to initial reports, gunmen opened fire at the clinic resulting in Abidi’s death. The motive behind the attack is not yet known but police are investigating whether it was a sectarian killing. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has asked for an inquiry into the incident.

Earlier last month, a US national and vice-principal at Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC) was shot and critically injured on Shaheed-e-Millat Road in what the police suspect to be the first targeted attack in the city by militants claiming affiliation with the Islamic State (IS).

According to SSP Pir Muhammad Shah, the victim, identified as 55-year-old Debra Lobo, was shot at by four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles as she left the college to go home in her red Suzuki sedan.
