LAHORE:
The Punjab University (PU) College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the World Wildlife Fund have signed a memorandum of understanding to introduce an extensive programme for the youth on environmental awareness. Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran, WWF Pakistan Senior Director Anwar Nasim, External Linkages Director Maria Maldonado and College of Earth and Environmental Sciences Principal Firdaus-i-Bareen were present on the occasion. A PU statement on Friday said the purpose of the collaboration was to educate students about environmental challenges. It is also meant to create a constituency of environmentally enlightened, like-minded people who can affect change, it said. “The WWF will provide funds for activities aimed at creating awareness such as seminars and events related to environmental protection, sustainability and research conducted by the college,” it said. Separately, PU Department of Political Science and Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives signed an MoU for cooperation in a civic engagement and community outreach programme.
