Judges detention case: Another exemption for former president
The court had directed the former president to appear on the next hearing.
ISLAMABAD:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) dismissed on Friday former president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf’s application for permanent exemption in the judges’ detention case. The court, however, excused him for the day’s proceedings on the request of his counsel Illyas Siddiqui.
Special Public Prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish opposed the application and requested the court turn it down as the case has long been pending.
The court, however, granted exemption for Friday’s hearing on medical grounds on the request of Siddiqui.
While talking to The Express Tribune, Siddiqui said he had left the court after presenting arguments and was unaware if it had summoned or issued warrants against his client.
He, however, confirmed the court had directed the former president to appear on the next hearing.
Following the hearing, ATC-II Judge Sohail Ikram adjourned the case till May 22.
The case is based on an FIR registered in August 11, 2009 on the complaint of Advocate Aslam Ghumman who He had asked police to initiate legal proceedings against Musharraf for detaining over 60 judges after proclamation of emergency on November 3, 2007.
