ISLAMABAD:

The capital police claimed on Friday to have arrested a man who had allegedly fled during the 2012 Bannu jailbreak from Sohan area within the limits of Khana Police Station.

The police said the suspect, Raheem Gul, who was incarcerated in a narcotics case, had escaped from Bannu jail and was arrested after authorities received a tip about his presence in their jurisdiction.

Hundreds of heavily armed militants in several vehicles had attacked the Bannu Central Jail in K-P and releasing nearly 400 prisoners in a pre-dawn assault in 2012. While some returned and others were arrested, several are still at large.

Separately, unidentified men deprived Dr Waseem Khawaja, a senior gastroenteritis specialist at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, of cash and other valuables during a robbery at his private clinic located in Rawalpindi. Khawaja also serves as the spokesman of the public hospital.
