Polio campaign using injections starts May 13
Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) campaign targeting 177 union councils (UCs) will run from May 13 to May 20

A total of 114,688 children of 13 selected districts in Sindh will be administered the polio vaccine through injections starting Wednesday, announced the health department on Friday.
The Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) campaign targeting 177 union councils (UCs), recommended by the World Health Organisation, will run from May 13 to May 20. Children between the ages of four to 23 months will be given the IPV, said public health special secretary Dr Khalid Hussain Shaikh.This is the first time health officials have decided to use the IPV outside Karachi.
According to Dr Shaikh, 48 UCs of Hyderabad, 12 UCs of Dadu, nine UCs of Shaheed Benazirabad, six UCs of Sanghar, 10 UCs of Naushero Feroze, eight UCs of Sukkur, six UCs of Ghotki, 11 UCs of Khairpur, 15 UCs of Jacobabad, 12 UCs of Kamber-Shahdadkot, 15 UCs of Kashmore, 10 UCs of Larkana and 15 UCs of Shikarpur will be covered. Moreover, a second round of this campaign will target 49 selected UCs in Karachi in June.
Dr Shaikh said the district health officials and deputy commissioners of these 13 districts have been asked to submit their micro plans by Sunday. He announced that 332,429 children up to five years of age will also be given an oral polio vaccine. The outreach and fixed centres in all 177 UCs will operate from 8am to 4pm during the campaign.
