ISLAMABAD: The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) on Thursday decided to launch an awareness campaign for the general public in an attempt to promote the efficient use of solar systems. This was decided in the 33rd board meeting of AEDB, chaired by Minister of Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif. It discussed the development of new solar and wind power projects, taking full advantage of new technology and price decrease. The minister dispelled the impression that there was a complete ban on new solar and wind power projects. He appreciated AEDB’s efforts to help start 255.4-megawatt wind power projects and the achievement of financial close for nine more projects having cumulative capacity of 477MW. These projects will come on stream by September 2016 with an investment of over $1 billion.
