Convicted: Two sentenced to death

Imran Shah had killed his wife by setting her on fire last year.

An anti-terrorism court on Monday awarded death penalty on two counts to two men convicted of murder.


Prosecution said Ashraf and his brother-in-law Imran and another accomplice Imran Shah had killed his wife by setting her on fire last year.

After examining evidence and hearing witnesses, the ATC judge awarded death sentence to Asif and Imran under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The convicts were also directed to pay Rs500,000 fine each.

The judge also awarded death sentence to Asif and Imran under Section 302-B of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). They were also directed to pay Rs500,000 compensation to the heirs of the deceased.

Both convicts were awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 million each under Section 336-B of the PPC. They will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of two and a half years if they failed to pay the fine.

The judge acquitted Shah giving him the benefit of doubt.
