Striking a balance: CM says billions being spent on rural development
Shahbaz says standards at Vehari District Headquarters Hospital not satisfactory
LAHORE:
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that billions of rupees were being spent on development projects in rural areas.
Sharif made the remarks during his eight-hour long tour of Vehari and Burewala. Sharif said the living standards of people from rural areas would improve following the completion of the projects. He said the provision of modern facilities would be ensured to them under the projects.
The chief minister inaugurated the Rs500 million-Burewala-Ludden Road, a Rs40 million cardiac centre at the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital and the Rs1 billion-Burewala-Chichawatni Road. Sharif also laid the foundation stone of a Rs70 million-Rescue 1122 project during his visit.
Droves of people congregated at the inauguration ceremonies of the projects in Burewala. Sharif told citizens that work on development projects was being completed expeditiously. He said those staging sit-ins had been trying to impede development. Sharif said the people would foil their conspiracies.
The chief minister said China was investing $46 billion in the nation under the “historic” Pakistan-China Economic Corridor project. He said out of this, $20 billion would be invested in the energy sector alone. The chief minister said change was brought about by practical work and not through sloganeering.
He said the Sheikh Din Muhammad Trust Welfare Hospital in Sahuka, the land of Hazrat Baba Sher Dewan, had been established in accordance with the teachings of religious personages while addressing its inauguration ceremony. He said Sheikh Muhammad Akram deserved to be appreciated for building the hospital. The chief minister said various coal-fired power projects would be completed in 2017. He said the nation would be able to overcome the energy crisis with Chinese assistance and the completion of power projects in three years.
The chief minister said the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital would be upgraded at a cost of Rs630 million while inaugurating a cardiac centre at the facility. He said a Rs80 million-dialysis centre had also been constructed at the hospital. The chief minister also announced the establishment of a Rs45 million-blood transfusion centre on the occasion.
“Lawmakers should personally monitor progress on the Khadim-i-Punjab Rural Roads Programme,” Sharif said while speaking to journalists at the Vehari Circuit House. He said the project would revolutionise rural development. The chief minister said he had been personally monitoring progress on the project.
The chief minister said he was not satisfied with standards at the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital. He said steps had to be taken to remedy this. Sharif urged journalists to highlight the government’s initiatives. He said elements conspiring to compromise development ought to be exposed.
Sharif said one had the right to disagree with the recent verdict of an election tribunal regarding NA-125 but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz respected the judiciary. The chief minister said the party’s emphatic victory in the recent elections in Cantt areas was a testament to its popularity.
