LAHORE:

Government College University has set up a nano-chemistry laboratory on campus to advance research on solar cells, nano-chemistry and technology, and waste water treatment. Vice Chancellor Khaleequr Rahman handed over charge of laboratory to Dr Akhyar Farrukh on Wednesday.

Rahman said the university had received equipment worth Rs10 million for the laboratory under international projects on nano-technology by the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Science Foundation and the World Academy of Sciences. Rahman said high-tech science laboratories were national assets and open to all Pakistani students and local industries for research purposes. He said the university had more than five inventions in the field of nano-technology in the past three years. Two of them – nano-fertiliser and zinc-oxide nano-flakes – have been patented by the United States Patent and Trademark office, he said. Rahman said the university had also published four books and 34 papers in reputed journals on nano-technology over the last three years.
