SWABI: Insisting that party tickets have been awarded on merit, the district chapter of Awami National Party has urged its workers to withdraw their candidacies for local government elections against nominees of the tripartite alliance.

While addressing an emergency news conference at his office on Wednesday, ANP Swabi Acting President Sheheryar Khan said his party has an alliance with Pakistan Peoples Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl for LG polls. He added a code of conduct had been agreed upon by all parties for the elections.

“As per the alliance agreement, party workers are supposed to campaign for the success of candidates fielded jointly by all three parties,” said Khan.

ANP has fielded its candidates in the district on merit and in accordance with the alliance’s seat adjustment formula, added Khan.

He urged ANP workers who were not given tickets and are contesting independently against alliance candidates to withdraw their nominations willingly.

The office-bearer further said if the workers do not comply, a list of those violating party discipline will be compiled and it will be submitted to ANP’s provincial and central leadership.
