KARACHI: Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said on Wednesday that he was considering sending a reference against three Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) MPAs, including former leader of the opposition in the provincial assembly Shaharyar Mahar, to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for their involvement in tearing up the book of rules and procedure of the assembly.

“This act is tantamount to treason and a case can be registered against the MPAs under Article 6 of the Constitution,” warned Durrani while speaking to the media on Wednesday.

Durrani, who is a political rival of Shikarpur's Mahar family, said lawmakers of the provincial assembly had made the rules following long deliberation, but some opposition members continued to flout them, considering them as “simple papers”.

“During the proceedings, they not only tore the copies of rules, but threw them away pointing figures at me. This non-democratic attitude is intolerable,” he said.

To a question about a resolution against the MQM chief for his remarks against army, he said, “I will admit the resolution if it comes through a proper channels, and fulfils the legal requirements.”
