KARACHI: At least six people were injured during a fight over allegations of cheating between two student groups at Karachi University on Thursday.

Law enforcers tried to fire in the air to scare them off. No arrests were immediately reported. According to witnesses and Mobina SHO Ejaz Khokhar, the clash took place between members of the Imamia Students Organisation and Peoples Student Federation. “We are investigating the case and will register a case,” the SHO said.

The ruckus broke out during the BSc examination that continued for one and a half hours. The boys used stones, rods and chains against each other and Khurram, Shahbaz Hussain and Ashfaq were reported among the injured. The mob also wrecked a walk-through security gate.

While the Rangers said that they quickly stepped in, students said they came after half an hour. “Some innocent lives could have been lost if we did not take action on time,” maintained a Rangers official. “The clash ended without any major loss after the aerial firing.”
