PESHAWAR:
Awami National Party activists from Peshawar district warned they would contest local government elections as independent candidates if their issues are not addressed by the party leadership.
ANP Peshawar Senior Vice President Kamran Siddique told journalists at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday that district president Malik Naseem did not take union councils and ward bodies into confidence before awarding party tickets. He added the clear show of favouritism led party activists to raise their voice against their own district body.
Siddique claimed Naseem also misguided the appellate board, in addition to the provincial and central leadership. He said ANP workers would keep resisting till their issues with the district body were addressed.
The Pakistan Patriotic Movement (PPM) has joined hands with ANP-Wali for local government elections.
Addressing a news conference at the press club on Tuesday, PPM Leader Abdul Rasheed told the media both parties decided to contest local government polls collectively.
