‘Pakistan’ is born in Nepal

ISLAMABAD: A child, born at a field hospital set up by the Pakistan Army in Nepal, has been named ‘Pakistan’ in a move that seeks to acknowledge rescue and relief efforts being undertaken by the country in the wake of the massive earthquake that hit the Himalayan state on April 25.

The child is the second born at the Pakistan Army’s field hospital in the Bakhtapur area of Kathmandu, the military’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement. The first child born at the hospital on April 30 was named after the city of Lahore, according to a Foreign Office statement.

The army field hospital, established on April 29, is part of the overall rescue and relief assistance being extended by Pakistan to the earthquake victims of Nepal. The ISPR said the field hospital was set up in Bakhtapur, which is the most affected area of Nepal.

Nepal’s army chief General Gaurav SJB Rana on Sunday visited the field hospital and lauded Pakistan’s relief efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake, which has claimed more than 7,000 lives.

“Pakistan will be remembered by people of Kathmandu because doctors from Pakistan army were present round the clock and they came with ample stock of medicines,” General Rana was quoted as saying by the ISPR.
