SUKKUR:
The Larkana police have arrested a man for allegedly torturing and poisoning his young wife over a minor issue in Budho Jeho village within the limits of Keti Mumtaz police station a couple of days ago.

Sono Jeho, 23, married 18-year-old Raheela Jeho, daughter of Muhammad Bux Jeho, two months ago. From the beginning, he allegedly forbade her from visiting her parents, sparking arguments between the couple.

Last week, when Raheela asked her husband to allow her to visit her parents, he reportedly called some of his friends to the house, put a chain around her neck, tortured her and forced her to drink poisonous liquid. When her condition worsened, she was first shifted to Naudero hospital and then referred to Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, where she died a few hours later.

Following her death, her father registered an FIR against Sono Jeho, Roshan Jeho, Dur Muhammad Jeho and Ahmed Jeho at the Keti Mumtaz police station. The police have arrested Sono.

Keti Mumtaz SHO Nisar Ahmed Brohi said Sono had killed his first wife six months ago after declaring her as 'kari' with Raheela's uncle. A jirga declared Raheela's uncle as 'karo' and ordered him to settle the dispute by giving a girl in marriage to Sono. Since he was unmarried, he requested his elder brother, Muhammad, to marry his daughter Raheela to Sono.

Brohi said the accused was in police custody and the police were investigating the matter. He further said that raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining accused men.
