KARACHI:

Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani did not allow some opposition lawmakers to move a resolution against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief, Altaf Hussain, who made a fiery speech against the armed forces a few days ago.

This led to an uproar in the House as members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf demanded legal action against Hussain. “We want to move a resolution,” insisted PML-F’s Shaharyar Mahar.

“As per the rules, we have to finish the question-answer session first,” said Durrani. “Your resolution is not on the agenda but I can try to consider your plea. Please sit down.”

However, the opposition members pointed out that a resolution can be moved out of order. “You have set many precedents by passing out-of-turn resolutions before the question-answer session,” said PML-F’s Nusrat Sehar Abbasi. Durrani refused, however, to budge. The opposition members walked out in protest. Meanwhile, members of the MQM remained quiet during the arguments.
