Love from Pakistan: Quetta rejoices with Mayweather
Boxing medallist Muhammad Waseem he was putting his money on Mayweather for the last three months
KARACHI:
Pakistan’s Asian Games and Commonwealth Game boxing medallist Muhammad Waseem believes that the much awaited welter-weight fight between Floyd Mayweather and Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao was not as disappointing as many people claim it to be.
He said that he was putting his money on Mayweather for the last three months.
The 27-year-old watched the fight in Quetta at the big screen he arranged at his home and most of his boxing friends and enthusiast, awaiting the bout eagerly, joined him.
“Mayweather was my favourite and his confidence was impressive,” Waseem told The Express Tribune. “We managed to install a big screen in Quetta and people were betting on Pacquiao, most of them, but I’m glad all of my friends listened to my advice. In fact they ended up winning money because I told them to root for Mayweather. It was all for fun.”
Waseem added that he does not believe that the fight was fixed; in fact he was rather disappointed in Pacquiao for not bringing his top game.

“In Quetta, like the majority of boxing fans around the world, everyone was just waiting for Pacquiao to be more aggressive, but he never played that way,” said Waseem. “Mayweather, on the other hand, really impressed me with his confidence. He said on Saturday that he would win the belt, and he proved himself, all that big talk, he backed it up with the fight. He was the clear winner. Pacquiao never really challenged any decision or even asked for a rematch.”
