No Bangladesh League for Kamran
Pakistan Cricket Board refuses wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal permission to play in Bangladesh T20 League.
KARACHI:
It seems nothing is going Kamran Akmal’s way after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused the wicket-keeper permission to play in a Bangladesh T20 League that starts later this month. Akmal, who has impressed in the ongoing Quaid-i-Azam Trophy, was also ignored from the squad for the New Zealand tour.
The wicket-keeper batsman has instead been asked to focus on the Quaid Trophy matches and not travel to Bangladesh where he would have joined teammates Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik, also ignored for the New Zealand tour.
“I sought permission but it was rejected,” Akmal told The Express Tribune. “The PCB reminded me that I am a centrally-contracted player and cannot go to play tournaments abroad while the domestic season is underway.”
The former vice captain said he will abide by the rules and would keep on playing the first class tournament.
“I am in good form and would try to continue it in order to regain my place in the national squad.”
The wicket-keeper, who has played in 53 Tests and 123 One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, said he was still seeking answers on why he has been sidelined from the national team.”I’m disappointed as I don’t know my mistake. I’m consistently performing in the Quaid Trophy but for some unknown reason, I’m being left out.”
Akmal, along with former captain Shoaib Malik and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria, is also expected to be overlooked from the preliminary squad for the World Cup on insistence of the International Cricket Council (ICC) due to their alleged links with bookies.
The wicket-keeper said he might contact the PCB to inquire reasons for his persistent snub. “I’ve been cleared by the ICC and I want to seek clarification by the PCB which is my right.”
