Members of a criminal gang kidnapped at least seven policemen on Sunday morning near Rahim Yar Khan, Express News reported.
According to police, around 30 members of Chooto Bakhrani and Shiltoo gang attacked a check post in Obara.
The abducted police officials included an assistant sub inspector and a head constable.
Soon after the incident, District Police Officer Rahim Yar Khan Sohail Zafar Chatha arrived at the Mashtha police station and ordered the personnel to carry out a search operation in the area.
"We have launched a rescue operation," Chatha said.
He added that all efforts will be made to arrest the miscreants.
A statement from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's office said he took "serious notice" of the kidnapping.
For the past 20 days, Rahim Yar Khan police have been conducting an operation against the criminals in the city.
