An additional district and sessions’ judge on Saturday gave till May 9 to two prosecution witnesses, including the investigation officer, for recording their statements before the court in a blasphemy case under trial for over two years.
The witnesses had to record their statements on Saturday but they failed to turn up.
Earlier, Judge Chaudhary Azam had dismissed an after-arrest bail petition of Waleeha Arafat saying that her release on bail was unnecessary at a time when the trial was near conclusion. In her fourth after-arrest bail petition, Arafat had said that with the completion of investigation, there was no reason why she could not be released on bail while the case remained under trial. She had said that she was implicated in a false case by the complainant, Abdul Monam Shah. She is accused of having defiled Holy Quran on March 3, 2012.
