SWABI:

A large number of students are participating in a three-day art competition under way at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Sciences and Technology in Swabi.

A university student told The Express Tribune that the initiative encourages participants from across the country to come together to appreciate art.

“Painting is a hobby which knows no boundaries,” he said. “If we fail to understand art, we will never be able to understand nature.”

Sajid Khan Salar, a student of CECOS University who is putting his work on display for the third time, said “Every time I have participated in the competition I have learnt a lot. The initiative bears a unique quality and teaches young people a lot about art.”

Laima Farooq, a student of Khyber Medical College, said the competition provides a platform for young artists to both learn and enjoy their work.

The art competition, which kicked off on Friday evening, has been organised by Naqsh Arts Society, a club at the institute which aims to promote the visual and performing arts. During the event, students from various universities across the country will display their work at an exhibition and a panel of judges will assess it.
