MINGORA:
Swat Scouts Open Group put together a hobbyists’ exhibition on Friday. The one-day event was attended by school and college students from across Swat Valley.

Scout Akhtar Ali said the exhibition is part of a larger effort by the group to engage with the youth and develop their interests in productive activities. “We have scheduled a number of similar events for the future,” he told The Express Tribune. Ali said the exhibition will help students hone their creativity and learn more.

Government Post Graduate Jahanzeb College Deputy Chief Proctor Akhtar Khan distributed awards among the participants. Talking on the occasion, Khan lauded the efforts of the organisers and said such activities will keep students from turning into deviants and make them active participants of society. Khan said violence in Swat has had an impact on every aspect of life and every effort towards achieving normalcy should be encouraged.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a tenth-grader Azimullah proudly spoke of the different electrical gadgets he had put together over time. “I want to pursue electrical engineering in the future,” he said, adding he makes these gadgets during his free time all by himself.

A wide variety of items including stamps, coins, matchboxes, pens and postcards were put on display. The stall of seventh-grader Mohammad Adil and twelfth-grader Roohul Amin was decorated with coins, tree leaves, marbles and photos of cricketers.
