KARACHI:

A three-day anti-polio campaign will begin from May 4 in certain sensitive union councils (UCs) of Karachi.

Health director Dr Zafar Ejaz said the anti-polio drive will take place in 49 sensitive UCs of 15 towns within Karachi, including Baldia, Orangi, Site, Gadap, Keamari, Gulberg, Liaquatbad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Bin Qasim, Landhi, Korangi and Jamshed Town.

The campaign will start on May 4 and will continue till May 6. He said around 685,583 children under the age of five will be administered polio vaccination drops during the campaign.

Strict security arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of polio teams during the drive, according to Ejaz.

He said a letter has already been sent to the deputy commissioners, directing them to coordinate with town health officers so that no child remains unvaccinated during the drive.
