MQM rubbishes allegations, to take legal action
Blames PPP-led government for conspiracy, seeks explanation from Sindh government
KARACHI:
Leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) dismissed as “political mischief” the allegations levelled by a senior police official on Thursday against the party’s activists and their alleged collaboration with India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
At the same time, the MQM’s leaders accused the Pakistan Peoples Party and its government in Sindh of hatching a conspiracy against it.
“A meeting was held between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and a third person on Wednesday night. Find out who the third person was and you will understand the meaning of Rao’s press conference,” said MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi in response to the startling claims made by SSP Malir Rao Anwar about
The party said it would take a legal action and called for both an explanation and clarification from the Sindh government. It also asked the provincial authorities to reveal on whose orders the news conference was held. “How can an officer of SSP level make such allegations and demand a ban on the party?” asked the party’s top decision making body.
Describing Anwar as a corrupt police officer, Rizvi claimed that he was responsible for the extrajudicial killing of many MQM activists.
The party also contested the SSP’s claim that the two activists, Tahir and Junaid, were arrested on Tuesday. It insisted that Tahir was arrested in February while Junaid was held in March, flashing copies of petitions filed by their families months earlier.
“We are being reminded of the 1990s when similar allegations of Jinnahpur, having affiliation with RAW and being traitors were pinned on us,” said Rizvi.
The MQM asked people to ponder over who were the beneficiaries of the news conference. It said despite all these conspiracies, the party was becoming stronger and the NA-246 by-election result proved that.
