PESHAWAR:
At least 111 underprivileged children have been enrolled in various government schools across Khyber Agency under the ‘Educating Khyber’ initiative launched by welfare organisation Khadimul Khalq Foundation (KKF).
During a ceremony held at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, KKF Chief Executive Farooq Afridi said they have also provided the children with uniforms, books and schoolbags. “We have also registered hundreds of children under the project and will enroll them at schools in phases,” he added.
Farooq maintained Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency has been most affected by war and militancy in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
“As a result, hundreds of people have lost their lives and their families in miserable conditions,” he said. “Under this project, children who have either been orphaned or whose families cannot afford to send them to school will be able to obtain funding for their education.”
Farooq said this process will continue till next year and the organisation will ensure more children get the opportunity to go to school.
FATA Secretariat Education Additional Director Hashim Khan Afridi and Private Schools Association President Asghar Khan also attended the ceremony. On the occasion, gifts were also distributed among underprivileged children from Khyber Agency.
