Helping hand: 220 Timber Market fire survivors receive cheques

As many as 220 traders and residents affected by the Timber Market fire incident received compensation cheques worth Rs97.73 million at CM House on Thursday. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah distributed a total amount of Rs68.084 million among 151 traders and another Rs11.646 among 69 residents.


Shah had constituted a committee, with the consultation of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to conduct a survey. "The first two phases have been completed and we have followed the recommendations of the committee," he said. "We want complete restoration of business activities in the Timber Market," said Shah. "We also provided financial assistance up to Rs3 billion for the rehabilitation of the Boulton Market."


Former KCCI chief Siraj Kassam Teli and Timber Market Association president Suleman Soomro lauded the efforts of the Sindh government in providing timely relief.
