Raindrops keep falling: Met office in K-P issues fresh weather warnings
Official says storm of similar intensity is not expected

PESHAWAR:
The meteorological department in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa issued forecasts on Wednesday of more rains and possible floods in the province in the next 24 hours.
“A storm of similar intensity is not expected,” said an official of the Meteorological department, referring to Sunday’s torrential rain that caused widespread damage and claimed over 40 lives. “However, there will be thunderstorms along with winds in scattered areas of Peshawar as well as in K-P’s other districts, including Kohat, Bannu and Mardan.”
The official maintained isolated rains are also expected in DI Khan, adding the expected rain spells can result in flash floods in rivers and streams hence the relevant departments have been alerted.
The Met office has informed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Rescue 1122 in advance to take precautionary measures to prevent untoward incidents from happening during the rough weather.
After a fresh warning of floods was issued, Rescue 1122 administration cancelled leaves of all rescue workers and said is teams are prepared to deal with any situation.
“We have issued high alerts keeping in view the weather forecast in the province,” Rescue 1122 Spokesperson Bilal Faizi told The Express Tribune. “On the orders of Director General Asad Ali Khan, all the staff members will have to do double shifts and remain on high alert.”
PDMA Spokesperson Latifur Rehman also said red alerts have been issued to all the district offices and administrations. He said all the staff members would be available on duty round the clock.
