Fertiliser off-take in the first three months (Jan-Mar) of calendar year 2015 improved to 1.92 million tons, up 6% compared to 1.82 million tons in the same period last year, according to National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC) data.
The increase in cumulative sales came because of 10% higher urea sales during the period under review. Conversely, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) sales in the first three months of 2015 faltered by 9% year-on-year to conclude the first quarter of 2015 at 183,000 tons.
A combination of growing supply and lower input costs for marginal producers in Europe (hub gas), Ukraine (oil-linked gas) and China (anthracite and thermal coal) are combining to cause deflationary pressure in the urea markets.
