KARACHI:
Pakistan men’s handball team won its opening match 40-30 against hosts Thailand on day one of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Continental Trophy in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Both teams were tied 17-17 after the first-half, after which Pakistan upped their ante in the second-half to win the match.
The national team will play its second match against Hong Kong on Thursday and the last league match against Uzbekistan on Friday.
Pakistan qualified for the event when they won the IHF South and Central Asian Trophy held in December in Faisalabad.
Men’s teams from Uzbekistan, Hong Kong and hosts Thailand also won in their respective zones, while Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei and hosts Thailand qualified for the women’s event.
