PESHAWAR/ DI KHAN:

A security official was killed and two others injured in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle as they were on their way to Kulachi.

A Kulachi police official said the security officials were passing through Hethala when a bomb planted on the side of a road went off, killing Subedar Khalid and injuring two others.

A similar blast in the wee hours of Friday had left seven security officials injured near the Gulbahar police station in Peshawar.

Separately, a young man was killed and a woman injured in Peshawar’s suburban Hayatabad town when a roadside bomb exploded near Bagh-e-Naran.

“A convoy of security officials was about to pass when the blast took place. They might have been the intended target,” said a policeman.

Police suspect that the man, who appeared to be in his 20s, was attempting to plant the explosive device or transporting it when the bomb went off. “We found a remote control in one of his pockets, which might have caused the accidental explosion. His body has been removed from the scene for examination,” said the police official.
