PESHAWAR:

Gul Roza and her husband Raees were shot dead over “honour” in Badhaber.

Roza and Raees had eloped eight months ago, shared the police on Sunday.

According to law-enforcement agency, Bilal, a resident of Dir, broke into their house in Gharibabad, Badhaber and shot Roza. Bilal then allegedly hunted Raees down and killed him in Chamkani.

“The couple had a love marriage, against the wishes of both families–more so the girl’s. They eloped around eight months ago,” the Chamkani officer told The Express Tribune. He said an FIR has been registered and an investigation has been launched at both crime scenes as Raees was shot in Chamkani and the woman in Badhaber.

Murders in the name of honour remain common. On April 17, a man killed his brother-in-law’s wife and another man for allegedly having an affair.

On April 23, a couple in Peshawar held a press conference, seeking protection from the girl’s uncles who were reportedly hunting them down.
