PESHAWAR:
The All Pakistan Hindu Rights Movement (APHRM) protested on Sunday against offensive language directed towards their religion.
Led by APHRM Chairman Haroon Sarbdiyal, a number of Hindus and social activists gathered outside Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
Protesters told the media they were deeply disheartened over an offensive write-up recently featured in the Sunday magazine of a local newspaper. Sarbdiyal told the media the author stated in his piece that Hindus in Sindh, Sialkot, Lahore and Kasur were working for foreign spy agencies.
The activist said the article claimed that people of the faith were “famous for being immensely greedy and selfish.”
Sarbdiyal said they will hold a demonstration on Monday (today) at the temple of Gor Gathri and appealed to all non-Muslims to also participate.
“Unity between Hindus and Muslim in Pakistan will be affected by such articles,” said one of the protesters. They asked for a ban on the writer who preached against the Hindu religion.
The protesters also asked Federal Minister for Information Pervez Rashid to form a committee of senior journalists and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory (Pemra) to find the person behind the article.
