LAHORE:
Workers of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were seen flouting rules set by the Election Commission of Pakistan during the election in the city’s two cantonment boards on Saturday.

PTI and PML-N workers were seen soliciting votes in close proximity of polling stations in both city cantonments.

In Lahore Cantonment Board Ward 4, PTI activists solicited votes all day at a camp set up by the party near a polling station.

The camp was originally set up for distribution of cold beverages amongst people visiting the polling station to cast their ballots.

In Walton Cantonment Board Ward 1, some PML-N workers held a rally that passed by several polling stations.

Several independent candidates The Express Tribune talked to alleged that the PML-N and the PTI had provided transport facilities to people to go to the polling stations. However, the two political parties dismissed the allegation.

Other violations observed by these scribes were display of party flags, banners and stickers near polling stations.

Several voters The Express Tribune interviewed on Saturday termed as unfortunate the violations of the code of conduct by political parties.

Under Section 5 of the Election Commission code of conduct, no party banner, flag, or any other election material should be displayed within 100 metres of polling stations.
