PESHAWAR:

An All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) candidate for polls in Cantonment Board Peshawar Ward-III, Shamsur Rehman, was arrested by the police early Saturday for allegedly printing fake CNICs.

His arrest fanned speculations that he might have been abducted. However, Cantt SP Rana Umar Farooq told The Express Tribune, these rumours are baseless.

“He is in police custody and is currently being interrogated,” Farooq said. “The situation will hopefully be clearer by the evening.”

Another police official said the candidate had been arrested by Khan Raziq police and was being interrogated.
