KARACHI:

Sulaiman Lashari’s family shifted houses thinking it would give them a break from the depression invading their lives and relieve them of flashbacks to that awful night. “It has helped a bit to make our mother come out of the phase and bring a change for our father. But Sulaiman’s loss and the void in our lives can never be replaced,” said his brother, Zeeshan.

On Friday, the family marked the first death anniversary of Sulaiman according to the Islamic Calendar, with prayers held for the deceased. Last May, the 18-year-old was shot by Salman Abro, son of Sakrand Training Centre SSP Ghulam Sarwar Abro, and his five police guards when they stormed his house in DHA. The shooting was a result of an altercation between the boys two days earlier.

Almost a year after the incident, the proceedings of the case will finally start. For the family, it was a terrible year, with Zeeshan facing petitions filed against him by the opposing party, all of which have been dismissed now. The family said pressure and delaying tactics were used to weaken the case.”Sulaiman still lives on and is with us every moment.”
