KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Wednesday notices to the provincial and federal authorities on a petition against the detention of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist, Moazzam Ali Khan, who allegedly facilitated the killers of the party's leader, Dr Imran Farooq, in London.

A division bench, comprising justices Naimatullah Phulpoto and Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, issued notices to the deputy attorney general, the provincial advocate general and the prosecutor general to file comments of the relevant authorities by May 14.

The petition was filed by Sadia Bano, who took the home secretary, the Rangers director-general, the police IG, Azizabad SHO and others to court over the alleged detention of her husband in a pre-dawn raid on Sunday.

Her lawyer, Johar Ali, said the Rangers personnel had raided the petitioner's house in Block 8 of the Federal B Area on April 12 and took away her husband.

He alleged that despite approaching the Azizabad police station to seek information regarding his whereabouts, the SHO refused to oblige. Even the Rangers officials did not cooperate, he claimed.

Lawyer Johar Ali argued that the failure of law enforcers to divulge information on the whereabouts of his client's husband was a violation of Article 18 of the Constitution. The court was, therefore, pleaded to order the Rangers to produce the detainee in a court of law along with the details of a case, if any, filed against him.
