Clarification: Shia Ulema Council denies supporting MQM
Says did not announce MQM's candidate in the NA 256 by-polls
KARACHI:
The Shia Ulema Council [Council of Shia Muslim clergy] has clarified that the organisation has not announced support for the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s candidate in the NA 256 by-polls to be held on April 23. In a statement issued on Monday, the council’s provincial secretary general, Allama Nazir Abbas Taqvi, said that the organisation, which is the body of scholars representing Shia Muslims in the country, refutes the claim of a few Shia people, who while using the name of the council, had pledged support for a political party in the by-polls.
