LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday announced the inauguration of the newly constructed Park and Ride Plaza in front of the Alfalah Square in Liberty Market after Ashura.

While the final date of the inauguration has not yet been confirmed, the LDA chairman and district coordination officer (DCO), Ahad Cheema, said that it will be within the next three weeks.

Cheema was presiding over a meeting of the LDA governing body. He also announced the auction of the 85 shops in the plaza, which will be held within days of the inauguration.

LDA has acquired the services of Collier International to launch a media campaign for this purpose.

Construction of the plaza started in August 2009. 16 months later the structure has been completed. Finishing work on the exterior is in progress.

The project costing Rs500 million was planned initially to be a seven-storey building. Later the LDA extended it to 11 storeys.

At the same meeting, the LDA also allotted 1.25 acres situated in Gujjarpura Scheme to the Technical, Engineering and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) for establishing a Government Vocational Training Institute for Women.

The meeting also decided to extend the building period for the Aiwan-i-Quaid-i-Azam at Johar Town without any surcharge until December 2011.

The authority also approved the proposal for executing remaining works of the construction projects of Shershah Road, CD-Drain and disposal station. The meeting was also attended by LDA Director General Omer Rasul.
