KARACHI:
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation officials have made their own rules to promote themselves from one grade to another, said provincial information and local government minister Sharjeel Memon in Friday’s Sindh Assembly session.
Responding to call attention notices moved by the opposition MPAs, he said that a grade 19 officer had promoted himself to grade 20. “These decisions are to be made by the departmental promotion committee or the chief secretary’s office, but the KMC administrator has broken all records,” he claimed, adding that the administrator had promoted dozens of officials without consulting the chief secretary and the relevant authorities. Memon revealed that some employees who had started their careers with grades seven or eight a few years ago had managed to attain grades 17 or 18 within a short span of time. “We have now notified a committee to review the illegal promotions,” he said, adding that these officers would be demoted to their old positions.
