KARACHI:

Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will support the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in the upcoming NA-246 by-elections, Express News reported.

Rafique met JI leader Ameerul Azeem and announced his party's support for JI candidate Rashid Nasim in the elections scheduled for April 23. The JI leader had earlier requested Rafique for PML-N's support in the polls.

Meanwhile, discussions between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and JI reached a deadlock as both the parties tried to convince the other to step back in favour of their candidate.

The Pakistan Peoples Party has announced its support for Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate Kanwar Naveed, while an independent candidate, Ashraf Ali Qureshi, withdrew from the contest in favour of PTI's Imran Ismail.
