KARACHI: A police officer was killed Thursday morning when a man opened fire at his vehicle on Korangi Road in Karachi, Express News reported.

The police officer has been identified as SHO Ejaz Khan.

According to initial reports, the culprit responsible for killing the police officer has been taken into custody and investigation is underway.

According to data provided by the Karachi police, 142 policemen were killed in 2014, while 34 were targeted in the first three months of 2015 in the city.

The targeted operation started in Karachi after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the metropolitan in September 2013 in a bid to devise a strategy to curb violence.
