Pakistan movement: ‘Teach students about Christians’ role’
Christians had played a key role in the independence movement

A petition was filed at the Lahore registry of the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking directions for the government to add a chapter in the Pakistan studies syllabus about role of Christian community in independence movement.
However, he said Pakistan studies courses taught at public schools and colleges in the country discussed only the role of Muslims. He said syllabus did not cover the role of Christians in the independence movement. He said this lack of coverage was keeping the Christian youth in the dark about the role of their ancestors in the independence movement and creating a perception amongst them that they were second-grade citizens of the country. The petitioner said this was an act of discrimination.

Petitioner Advocate Raja Nathanael Gill submitted that Christians had played a key role in the independence movement and laid great sacrifices for the establishment of Pakistan.
However, he said Pakistan studies courses taught at public schools and colleges in the country discussed only the role of Muslims. He said syllabus did not cover the role of Christians in the independence movement. He said this lack of coverage was keeping the Christian youth in the dark about the role of their ancestors in the independence movement and creating a perception amongst them that they were second-grade citizens of the country. The petitioner said this was an act of discrimination.
