The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa) has condemned the police baton-charge on faculty members, non-teaching staff and students of the Sindh Agriculture University, who were protesting at the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas Road on Wednesday against the imposition of a toll tax. “A majority of teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students commute daily to the university from Hyderabad city, which is around eight kilometers away in Tando Jam,” said Fapuasa provincial president Prof Naimatullah Leghari while talking to The Express Tribune. “For over a month now, they have been subjected to extortion on the pretext of Rs50 toll tax twice a day, which is meant for travelers going to Mirpurkhas located at a distance of 65 kilometers.”
