LAHORE:
A unique concoction of Greek mythology and contemporary Hollywood superheroes featured in the CrossRoads winter collection which launched on Monday evening amid a coterie of designers, TV anchors and models.
Celebrity make-up artist and stylist Asmaa Mumtaz aided customers and celebrities by helping them choose designs and colours suited to their body shape, height and skin tone.
CrossRoads’ rand manager Misha Peracha told The Express Tribune that brands selling western outfits usually advertise through hoardings and magazines. And the concept of getting a celebrity stylist to assist customers is likely to encourage customers to attend the launch.
Peracha along with CrossRoads’ designers Rabia and Saad, media manager Bilal and stylist Asmaa Mumtaz will travel to Islamabad and Karachi and hold similar events there. On Wednesday CrossRoad’s management team will be at the brand’s flagship store in Islamabad while events in Karachi are to be held on Friday and Saturday at the Park Towers and Tariq Road outlets respectively.
Rabia has been working at CrossRoads for the last three years and said, “Everything from conceptualising, researching and putting the outfits together for the collection took us seven months. This year, we have been given priority to enhancing our men shoes collection and monologue, printed canvasses, fleets and suede had been added to the items. Additionally the quality and stitching of ladies handbags have been dealt with meticulously.”
Compared to previous years, the new collection is in a wider range of colours. Designer Saad said, “The colours incorporated in 2010’s collection are mostly earth tones. We experimented a great deal with burnt orange, tarnished mustard, deep purple and Persian blue.” He added that this year’s creations have been given an edge as serpents, mythical wings, Zeus and Poseidon from Greek mythology and Egyptian carnival masks which were pertinent to the colour theme of this collection. The winter collection also displayed a range of wallets, sunglasses and scarves.
Familiar faces at the event included interior designer Hamza Tarrar of Casa Hamza, fashion designers Saim, Munib Nawaz and models Rabia Butt and Saad Qureshi.
Crossroads has 40 outlets nationwide with 11 in Lahore, six in Karachi, four in Islamabad, two each in Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Quetta. Stores have been opened in smaller towns as well.
