KARACHI: The 'I Am Karachi' campaign has geared up for its second episode of 'I Am Karachi Youth Festival' that will begin May 23 and end May 30.

Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, secretary Ahmed Shah announced this at a media conference on Tuesday. According to Shah, the motive behind the citywide campaign is to promote arts and culture. "When there was no [such] platform, we provided it for the people to promote cultural activities," he said, adding that the festival will be held at the Arts Council. He termed it a 'success' that 17,850 young people registered at the first youth festival.

Youth Festival project director Dr Fouzia Khan, Ghazi Salahuddin, Dr Huma Mir, Kashif Girami and Shehnaz Siddiqui were also present on the occasion. "We want this city to live again," said Salahuddin, shedding light on the campaign's mission. He emphasised that as Karachiites, we only have pride, unity and resilience to construct the city, collectively.

Talking about the youth, he said that the young generation does not want to be dictated - instead, they need thoughts, ideas and belief.

Dr Khan informed the audience that this time, registration forms are available online. "We also divided the age categories into 13-20 and 21-29," she said. "They can participate in dance, painting, theatre and much more."

She said that the competitions have also been divided into 10 categories. These include music, theatre, dance, photography, quizzes, English and Urdu speech and essay writing. "Training workshops will also be arranged for the participants to polish their skills," she added.

Talking about the last festival, she said that the seven days of success are proof of their hard work of more than a month. "Youth festival always gives equal opportunities to people from all parts of the city," she said.

The Arts Council secretary further added that ‘I Am Karachi’ is striving to engage youth in positive activities. He encouraged the youth to download registration forms from the official Facebook pages and websites of ‘I Am Karachi’ and Arts Council. The deadline for registrations is May 16, which is free of charge.
