LAHORE:

A Lahore High Court bench on Monday expressed displeasure over the absence of the Kot Lakhpat jail superintendent during the hearing of several petitions seeking directives for him to allow meetings between the petitioners and their relatives held in six sectarian killing cases.

It directed a Prosecution Department officer to ensure that the superintendent appeared before the court on the next hearing (today). Muhammad Rafiq and other petitioners had submitted that the jail authorities were for several weeks not allowing them to see their family members.

They had said that they were concerned about the lives of the six men and requested the court to direct the authorities to let them meet their relatives. The suspects - Qari Asif Mahmood, Abdul Rauf Gujjar, Sabir Shah, Hashim Abdullah, Sheikh Farhan and Rafiullah - were arrested last year. Their trials are underway  at the anti-terrorism court.
